The Kiwanis Club of Griffin will again host the 70th annual Kiwanis Spalding County Fair beginning

October 7th -15th. Gates open at 5 :00 on the 7th.

Mega tickets are on sale till October 7th    at 5:00PM. They are $20.00 and are good to get you in the gate and on all carnival rides for any one day. Mega Tickets can be bought at all local bank branches of FNB, United Bank and Georgia Banking Company, the Chamber of Commerce office, and the Kiwanis office under the big blue roof at the fairgrounds. The tickets are pink this year. A portion of the sale will be given to the local breast cancer awareness group
Free gate admission tickets are given to kindergarten thru 5th grade at their school.
Ticket are $6.00, kids 6 & under are free admission, credit and debit cards can be used for ticket purchases.
.Parking is free, parking direction/assistance will be provided by the Griffin High and Spalding High JROTC cadets.
Handicap parking will be the areas nearest the front entrance, ask the parking attendants for assistance.
Gates open at 5:00 Monday the 10th thru Friday the 14th, Saturdays at 1:00, Sunday the 9th at 2:00.
Belle City Amusements will provide the midway rides and games. All rides are inspected for safety by the Georgia Office of Insurance and the State Fire Marshall’s Office prior to opening to the public. All Belle City ride supervisors are certified with the National Association of Amusement Ride Safety Official certification.
The double Ferris wheel will be back and running this year. The Griffin Fire Department is going to do a demonstration practice rescue from the Ferris wheel on October 6th.
The City of Griffin Fire/Safety Department will inspect all buildings and host the Fire Pavilion which will serve as the first aid/EMT center, “lost parents”, as well as general community safety information.
The Spalding County Fire/Rescue Department will be on site. They will demonstrate their skills in car extrication. Fowler Auto Parts is donating a car for the demonstration. The Firemen will be available to answer fire safety questions, as well.
The Spalding County Sherriff’s Department will provide security inside the fairgrounds.
The City of Griffin Police Department will provide traffic control on Hill Street and security at the gates.
The VFW will again be decorating the main entrance and the outdoor stage with American flags and banners.
Letters have been sent out to the schools notifying the students to get started on their art work exhibits.
Local vendors are exhibiting in the main entrance building.
All school children are given book marks at school that have an attached card to fill out and deposit at the entrance for a chance to win one of 2 bicycles
There are exhibits of adult needlework as well as ceramics exhibits, 4-H craft exhibits including artwork, crafts, needlework, handmade items, canned fruit and vegetables as well as the 4-H Food Booth.
Georgia Forestry will again be exhibiting. Smokey the Bear is expected.
.Please come to the fairgrounds and enjoy your famous Korn Dawg provided by the Kiwanianne Club.
Bingo will again be provided by the Kiwanis Club of Spalding County.
The Lions Club is bringing their vision screening machine. October 8th 5:00-8:00 and October 15th 5:00-8:00. See them for a free vision screening.
Special Friends Day will be Friday October 7th at 10:00-1:00. Belle City Amusements will open the children’s rides for free for the special needs children only. The 4-H Food Booth will provide hamburgers and drinks for the kids. The Kiwanianne Club will provide Korn Dawgs.
The Spalding County “Born to Dance “ line dance team will be on the outdoor stage Friday the 7th  at 6:00 to 7:30 , followed by The Oak Hill Baptist Church choir
We will have a lawnmower race group from McDonough on the first Saturday and Sunday afternoon. They will have a “run what you brung” category. Rules are posted on the Kiwanis web site and the Kiwanis Fairgrounds face book page.. That will be in the arena on the first Saturday and Sunday afternoon.
We will have a chain saw artist “Artistry in Wood” here on  October 13, 14 and 15th.
Griffin High school will bring their chorus to perform on the outdoor stage on Tuesday the 11th.
Joe Ebert will have the New Life radio trailer on site to do live broadcast.
Scott Barrett will perform on the outdoor stage on Thursday 13th.
Bonnie Ridge Blue Grass on the outdoor stage Friday the 14th.
On October 15th on the outdoor stage 7:00 to 9:00 we will have Matt Sinclair,  Shayla Sinclair, Scott Cagle, Justin Lee Wood
There will be a petting zoo brought in by the All American Petting Zoo, a family owned and operated business for the past 15 years. They are USDA certified and have an on site hand wash station. They will offer camel and pony rides for a small extra charge. This year they have added a pig race which will feature several races a day, watch for the race schedule.
. Gates open at 1:00 on both Saturdays. Senior admission is $3.00 from 1PM till 5PM on both Saturdays. 2 armbands are available, 1PM till 6PM, or an all day arm band
The After School Skate Program from Griffin Skate Inn will perform on the indoor stage Friday October 14th . Be sure and watch their dance routine on skates.
Gates open at 2:00 on Sunday the 11th. Face painting will be done by the Spalding High Key Club. Arm bands are available and good till 7PM.
The Coweta County 4-H Mounted Drill Team will be in the arena on Monday the 10th at 7:00
The Spalding County 4-H Mounted Drill Team will be in the arena Tuesday 11th  and Thursday the 13th at 7:00
Monday is “$1.00 ride tickets” night, good on Monday only.
Tuesday is Food Depot arm band day, go to Food Depot and get a $5.00 off coupon.
Wednesday Free admission with a “ 6 cans of food donation”, all food will go to the Five Loaves and Two Fish Food Pantry. Please no expired or dented cans.
We will have a chain saw artist “Artistry in Wood” here on  October 13, 14 and 15th.
Thursday is Akins Feed and Seed arm band night, go to Akins Feed and Seed and get a $5.00 off coupon.

The Impact dance and cheer team will again be on the indoor stage on the Saturday night the 15th.
Several craft vendors are planning to be at the fair, they will be in the exhibit open air exhibit pavilion .
20th Century Fox will be at the Kiwanis Spalding County Fair shooting scenes for the movie” Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul “.In this particular segment of the movie the main character and his family are on a road trip and they stop by a county fair for some family fun time. Most of the filming will be done before the gates are open to the public.  However, when you come to the fair you will notice some “sets” where they have or are shooting scenes.

20th Century Fox will also need some extreme wide shots of the crowd at the fair which they will do when the gates open at 5:00. This will occur on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and possibly Thursday, that is October 10-13th. The Kiwanis Club is inviting everyone to come to the fair promptly at 5pm, on those days if you want a possible chance at movie fame. We look forward to seeing you there!
